INTRODUCTION Keramicalia started in Dave Onderstall's backyard in Randfontein in 1979. We now have 12 employees in five mini-factories in Randfontein South Africa. We manufacture small quantities of specialised refractories and ceramics, most of which are unique to Keramicalia. Our product range covers several hundred materials and a wider range of technologies than any other ceramic business that we know of. To date we have undertaken 500 different development projects, and have an appropriate material "off the shelf" for virtually any new application. Development continues in all fields, driven mainly by improved raw materials. We have 5 kilns, some drying ovens, bakery and other mixers and precasting equipment. Our core business is product development. We stock several hundred different raw materials, and we supply most orders the same or the following day. About 90 of our materials have data sheets, which are available on disc or on this web site http://www.keramicalia.com. The bulk of our business comes through other refractory traders, manufacturers, installers, furnace builders and consultants. Several businesses have been set up on the strength of our products. We carefully avoid competing with other manufacturers, as they are our main distribution channels. We therefore have close working relationships with nearly every business in the industry, and are in a position to source anything on the market. We have 320 different precasting moulds for items varying from 6 grams to 480kg.
